The Rocky series is considered one of the best sports movies and along with the best 70s and 80s movies of all time. The film series primarily focused on an aspiring young boxer “Rocky” who wanted to become a professional boxer and appear in major competitive tournaments. The Rocky even managed to secure a spot in the list of Oscar’s best picture nominations and the greatest films of all time.
The franchise ran for 7 installments concluding sometime in the early 90s. But the creators of that film series had some other plans as they wanted the series to continue in the same format. The idea to pick up the series was pitched as former Rocky’s opponent’s illegitimate child gets trained by Rocky himself so he could beat up the people who built him about his parentage and eventually build a career in boxing.
The title of the film was announced as Creed which was the last name of Rocky’s former opponent Apollo Creed and his son Adonis Creed. The film starred Michael B Jordan as Adonis Creed and Sylvester Stallone as his trainer Rocky Balboa. The film received a successful reception and praise in terms of directing and acting.
A sequel was announced after the prominent success of the first one with the original cast returning along with the exact same crew. The film managed to collect praise and appreciation just like the very first one did. Well, the success of the creed invited greed as the creators wanted the third installment but no director wanted to step up.
Now the team behind the film series has announced that Michael B Jordan himself will be taking on the directorial duties of the third film along with starring in it. Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson are expected to reprise their roles. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year. And the film could be expected to drop around mid-2022.
