It started as an experimental film back in the early 2000s with two film school graduates James Wan and Leigh Wahnell who managed the production of 1 million dollars for their very first film titled Saw wherein Leigh served as a writer and actor of the film with James Wan directing it.
The film shattered the box office with heavy appreciation and revenue particularly for its small budget and big explosion along with the audience lauding the tone and mysterious horror setting without a ghost in it. The positive reception of the film paved a way for multiple films converting the single standalone film into a series.
So far we have witnessed 8 films in the series with the 9th one scheduled for next month. As the audience is waiting for another mystery ride on who could be pulling the strings this time as the main antagonist died in the third installment leaving behind his successors or disciples who would carry his legacy as the Jigsaw killer and would punish the people who don’t value life.
The film series focuses on some individuals trapped with booby traps and barbed wires and are tasked to play a game that includes some gore and slasher in it and if they succeed in completing the given task they are rewarded freedom and if they fail death waits for them in those booby traps. The real jigsaw killer carried out this maniac operation and brought in an individual who doesn’t value life as he lost his wife and baby and was diagnosed with untreatable and inoperable cancer.
The film series is filled with the investigation led by police officers in finding out who is playing all these games. With the people trapped recalling how they valued life by a series of flashbacks. Every single film contains a mega twist in the end that blows the brains out of everyone.
With enough success on the table comes another as twisted pictures have announced that they will be keeping the franchise alive with the announcement of Saw 10.
Saw 9 aka Spiral comes out on May 7, 2021
